Advertising and promotional campaigns that produced items people want to keep
This company was owned by Saul Marantz the father of High Fidelity. He went to extreme lengths to make the very best loudspeakers you could buy. I still listen to my vinyl on the DQM-9 studio monitors that have their unique combination of powerful heart pounding bass while its tweeters clearly defining the most subtile high tings. Once you hear them you have to have them. I also designed the promotion for his Lineage Series of amplifers.
The original Apple store on 23rd Street was my home for all things digital which is the heart and soul of what I do. Owner David Lerner was always there to reliably sort out any problem while you sipped a nickle bottle of Coke from his antique machine. Since there was almost nothing they didn't do, they needed my help to explain it all in a pamphlet that reflected the clean simple Apple style. It was a sad day when they closed due to competition by the Applestores that copied them.
I designed their monthly members magazine Trinity News for many years. This is a special issue that commemorates the 400th anniversary of the Episcopal church. Until the Brooklyn Bridge was built, Trinity Church was the tallest structure in the city. It still stands tall at the foot of Wall Street as an important religious, educational and cultural center.
This fine quality catalog was designed for a limited edition of reproduced ancient Chinese bronzes. It came in a black sleeve that had a die cut hole to feature the gold stamped title on the cover inside. The 64 coated pages were hand sewn together. It was presented in a custom made wooden box just like the bronzes themselves.
